The Song of Blood in the City of Masks: “Kufa: The Slaughterhouse of Faithfulness and the Abode of Tribulation Wrought by Umayyad Guile.” View here. “The gardens are green; hasten.” These glittering expressions were no herald of truth, but a mirage in the desert of hypocrisy. The Kufans led words to the slaughterhouse so that they could adorn the groundwork of betrayal with the name of “invitation.” Muslim ibn Aqil, the emissary of insight, entered a Kufa in whose hidden layers the Umayyads had woven the spiderwebs of conspiracy. With tainted gold, the Umayyads turned the city into a cage in which Muslim’s cry for justice shattered against the stone walls of the Kufans’ silence. The writers of the letters were the very killers of Hujr ibn Adi who had previously signed the verdict of their own apostasy with the blood of justice. By clothing “betrayal” in the garb of “invitation,” they led Husayn (peace be upon him), encircled by hypocrisy, to the slaughterhouse. Muslim was martyred not by the enemy’s sword, but by the blade of “those who posed as friends.” Together with hirelings who sold their faith for coins, the Umayyads orchestrated a conspiracy that will forever remain a stain of disgrace upon this deceived city.
