Lyrics
The angels are all absorbed in watching him fight
The Prophet is immersed in delight at seeing him
How beautifully the pure-born Ferdowsi said:
Only one of base origin would be his enemy
Go toward him, go, go toward him
Seek paradise in Najaf; seek Najaf as paradise
Say Ali, say Ali; Ali, say Ali, say it
Always say Ali, and always remain in ablution
The resonance of his mighty battle cry is the echo of Dhu al-Fiqar
In single combat, his body needs no armor
Ali is Tahamtan, such a Tahamtan that even
The daughter of Asad cannot bring forth his like
Do not hesitate, O heart; make my heart single-hearted
This heart has not given its devotion to another beloved
Hafez did not know that the world is Haydar’s realm
He gave Samarkand away from the caliph’s purse
The children of Adam are limbs of one body
Yet the Shia of Ali are higher
For it is narrated that the Shia
Are the surplus clay of Haydar’s creation
Span by span, gold upon gold; gold upon gold, span by span
Dates upon dates, Najaf upon Najaf; Najaf upon Najaf, dates upon dates
With reverence, go to the shrine; go to the shrine with reverence
From this sanctuary back to your home, step backward in respect
The murmur of my call to prayer is weighty with Ali’s remembrance
The rise and fall of the muezzin on the minaret is sweet to the heart
If for a moment you take your petition to the land of Najaf
The land of Najaf is the center of the earth’s sustenance
Whoever is not with Ali is Harun; do not doubt it
After the Prophet, he follows two or three calves
A child whose first word is “Ya Ali”
Travels a hundred-year path in a single night
The Prophet is immersed in delight at seeing him
How beautifully the pure-born Ferdowsi said:
